Understanding the Why

I recently watched a Tedx Talk on understanding "the why". The why is what drives the action. The why is the motivation to everything that you do, and the ultimate litmus test on worthiness of your time.  So, as I begin to stand up this new blog, I found myself asking that very question.

Why?

Why are relationships important?

The answer is incredibly personal. Part of it involves me, and my story (which I'll tell you more about later) while the other part is what I believe to be a very simple biblical truth. We are able to see God through the lens of relationships.

There is something magical that happens when two or three people are united in spirit. When laughter fills the room, or when mourning is consoled by a loved one. In those real life moments we begin to see the spirit of God.

The spirit of God is in His people.

Think about the worst punishment in the world; solitary confinement. Left to our own devices over time we are destined for a world of misery, loneliness, and isolation.  We weren't created to be alone. We were created for relationships, for togetherness, for love. The tough part about being in a relationship is always going to be subject to the brokenness of the people involved. People are difficult, annoying, and frustrating. The good news is that we are that person for someone else (ha)!

So why do we need to talk about this stuff? Because if we want to further understand who God is, we have to understand how to be in a relationship with His people.

Matthew 18:20 "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them."

According to Matthew's Gospel if we want a sure way to get God to show up all we need to do is invite His people into relationship.
